If you are like most people you have spent a ridiculous amount of time on the internet looking for ways to make a little extra money. I know that was the case for me. I would spend hours and hours on the internet looking and searching for the golden business idea or the secret to making money online. It took a couple years and many failed attempts before I sat down and I wrote down everything I was good at.
My list said that I was good at writing, investment analysis, sports, and opinionated politics. Once I had my list of what I am good at, I then began to search the internet again for ways to make money. However, this time, I looked for ideas that involved my list. That is when I found out being a freelance investment writer was an idea that I can work with.
A year later, I can tell you with confidence that it has made all the difference. I know have a steady income on the side freelance writing for various sites. Maybe writing is not your thing and that is ok. The point is look for ideas that not only interest you but ideas that you can perform well with.
Here are a few rules to keep in mind when you are looking for ideas to make money online:
- Make a list of everything that interests you or your talents
- With that list search for ideas that involve items on your list
- Do not expect to strike it rich quick
- Do not fall for the number of get rich quick schemes online
- A lot of talents can be freelanced so look at sites such as Elance.com, Freelance.com, etc
- Have patience
At any stage in your life, especially Generation Y, a little extra money could come in handy to pay bills, student loans, car payments, house payments or just to have a nice “rainy day fund”. Making money online is not hard if you have patience and not expecting to make a million dollars. Very few people are able to achieve that but if you come into this with a positive attitude and “never back down” state of mind you will no doubt be able to find some niche that interests you and able to make some money on the side with.
I made the unfortunate mistake of expecting to make some big money because I was a sucker for the “get rich quick” sites that promised riches and wealth like never before. I tried a few of them and they did not work and most often I lost money because I had to pay to get access to the information. Finally, I woke up and realized that this has gotten me nowhere but backwards because I had not only wasted money but I also wasted my time. That is when I decided to make a list of my talents and start searching for ideas that would involve my list. I am now a successful freelance writer but it did take some time and patience to get to this point. Just remember, good things come to those who wait.
