Gen Y Wealth Monthly Review/Yakezie Update | November 2010 (Plus, Weekend Reading)

In case you’re new, once a month I take time to share a business update along with a personal update. Since I do write a lot about finance, I think it’s important that I remain transparent about my plans for Gen Y Wealth.  Let’s get started…

The most important measure of success I have with Gen Y Wealth is email subscribers. On October 31st, I had 213 email subscribers. As I write this on December, 1st, I have 246. My goal with email subscribers is to always grow my list by 10% each month. A feat I was able to accomplish in November. (:

Traffic

October 2010

  • Alexa Rankings: 328,090
  • Absolute Visitors: 2,761
  • Page Views: 11,704
  • Average Time: 2:55

November 2010

  • Alexa Rankings: 289,513
  • Absolute Visitors: 2,963
  • Page Views: 11,701
  • Average Time: 2:50

I’m very happy with my Alexa ranking. My goal, was to climb into the top 200,000 websites by the end of 2010. It’s going to take a very strong December, but with some hard work and a little marketing, I think I can get there.

As for the rest of the traffic statistics, they were pretty much even. The top referring website for November was Get Rich Slowly.

Personal Update

I reapplied to become a Certified Financial Planner® earlier this week.

In order to become a Certified Financial Planner® you need three years of qualified experience. According to the CFP® Board, only around 80% of what I do qualifies. Therefore, I have had to work around 3 1/2 years to gain the full three years of experience.

Once I become a CFP®, I plan on offering my financial planning services to members of Gen Y Wealth. Five years ago, this wouldn’t have been possible. Now with the ease of online communication, I can offer my services to those all over the U.S. I’m still working on the details and software that will allow me to do this, but you can expect plenty more on this to come.

Good luck on working towards your certification, I plan on following you along the way.

Also, a quick question, when someone reads you site through an RSS reader does that count as a page visit?

Good work on your Alexa progress! I think you meant “break 200,000 by end of 2010″ and not 2011 right?

Cheers

@Financial Samurai – Yep. Meant to break 200,000 by year end. Thanks for the encouragement.

@Patrick – Thanks for following along. As for your question, I assume yes but I’m not sure. That’s why I believe email subscribers is the best stat for tracking my progress.

Great stats RJ. What made you want to become a CFP? I thought about it, but I need to know just about everything that has to do with personal finance, and I’m still pretty novice

@Briana – I became a CFP to help establish myself as an expert in the financial planning field. I also think it’s important to work inside the system then out.
